Obverse: Features a woman standing beside an anvil and holding a hammer, with the Mayon Volcano in the background. The denomination "FIFTY CENTAVOS" and the year "1958" are also inscribed.
Reverse: Displays the official coat of arms of the Republic of the Philippines, encircled by the inscription "Central Bank of the Philippines".
Composition & Specifications: It is composed of copper-nickel-zinc (70% Copper, 18% Zinc, 12% Nickel) and has a reeded edge.
Minting: These coins were primarily minted by the Philadelphia Mint in the USA, although some later issues of the series (dated 1964 and 1966) were produced by the Royal Mint in England and Vereinigte Deutsche Metallwerke in West Germany. The 1958 dated 50 centavos coins had a mintage of 4,999,000 for circulation and 1,000 proofs.
Historical Context: This coin belongs to the "English Series" which marked the resumption of coinage by the independent Republic of the Philippines after the MacArthur commemorative issue of 1947. This
