This is an antique Compote Lid for 'Canadian Pattern' by Burlington Glass Works. It is clear pressed glass and the lid only. It was manufactured in Hamilton Ontario, Canada. The Burlington Glass Works only operated between 1874 - 1897, closing because of a fire. The lid measures 4 inches tall including the top knot and 7.5 inches in diameter. It features embossed scenes of Canadian wilderness - trees, mountains, rocks - separated by ivy leaves and stippling. It is in very good condition for its age. There is one small flake on the rim, see photo. It is not rough to the touch. This is a rare and collectable example of the Early American Press Glass style.
