Something about the designer-
In 1950, Virginia Pope of The New York Times hailed the milliner as "a perfectionist" in assembling both materials and colors. She also praised her artful originality in flattering women of many types. The 1951 collection, Miss Pope wrote, excels in "both wit and wisdom."
Born Tatiana Yacovleff in St. Petersburg, Russia, on May 7, 1906, her professional family found sanctuary in Paris after the Bolshevik Revolution. She studied painting and sculpture, but also learned millinery to earn a living. Famous Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky fell in love with the 22 year old beauty at first sight in the fall of 1928. Her hats are in museums.
