This is a striking vintage Pattachitra painting from the 1970s, depicting Goddess Durga in her fierce form as Mahishasuramardini, slaying the buffalo demon Mahishasura. It’s a powerful representation of good triumphing over evil, a classic theme in Hindu mythology. This artwork belongs to the traditional Pattachitra style from Odisha, India, known for its bold natural colors, intricate detailing, and mythological storytelling. Painted on cloth treated with tamarind seed paste and chalk, it features ornate borders and vivid figures. This piece belonged to my mother-in-law, who lived in India in the early 1980s. It was part of her meditation room decor and has traveled from India to Germany and now to the United States. Condition: Vintage with signs of age – some paint wear, light cracking along the edges, and minor corner bends. Please see photos for details. Sold as-is due to age. Please view all pictures and feel free to message with any questions.
