What an interesting piece! This is a very ornate, large crest style medallion or pendant. It has a large white stone in the middle of the medallion. The man that I received this from said it was a German WW2 crest, and that it at one time had a symbol in the middle of it, which at some point someone took off, and put the large white stone. It is ringed with shields and gemstones, and on the back side it is ringed with fleur de lis. I believe it is gold plate, because you can see the plating rubbing off on the edges. It is very beautiful, and intriguing as well!
